How To Detox Your Body

HOW TO DETOX YOUR BODY:

This past weekend combined stress, less intense workouts and less healthy food options than I normally have. This left me feeling heavier and more bloated which the scale clearly reflected this morning. So how am I going to get back on track and detox from the weekend? Read on to find out.

First things first let's talk about what a detox is and who it is for. Basically, detoxification means cleansing the blood and body. This is done by removing impurities from the blood in the liver, where toxins are processed for elimination. The body also flushes out toxins through the kidneys, intestines, lungs, lymphatic system, and skin.

Some signs that you need to detox include if you're experiencing poor digestion, bloating, skin breakouts, swelling, brain fog and/or water retention.

A detox essentially means removing yourself from things that inflame and unbalance you. For example, alcohol, smoke, processed foods, lack of sleep, toxic products and more.

So how do you do it?

HYDRATE! Water helps flush toxins out while also improving digestion. If you're holding water weight that actually means you need to drink more water. Aim for 3 liters of water daily, and add a squeeze of fresh lemon for a bonus of vitamin C.

EAT ALL THE GREENS! Soak up all the natural vitamins and minerals that are present in our vegetables and fruits. This will help alkalize the body and promote a more harmonious environment to support detoxification.

REST! The body naturally detoxifies, repairs and recovers while we sleep which is also crucial for healthy cortisol (aka stress) and grehlin (aka hunger) hormones. Aim for 7-9 hours a night.

GO ORGANIC! Choosing higher quality foods, meats especially, can reduce the toxic load on your body. When you can, shop organic and skip the pesticides and hormones.

SWAP PRODUCTS! From the products you use on your face to your deodorant, chemicals exist. The effects of these chemicals on our hormones is starting to become more well known in the fitness industry for a reason. If you truly want to detoxify, go non-toxic. @Modere is a great company that makes non-toxic products if you're on the market for some!

SUPPLEMENT! Herbs like dandelion root and milk thistle can support the body's natural cleansing process. You can take these in pill or tea form and they work amazing for reducing water weight. I recommend adding in a multivitamin and probiotic as well to the mix to fully support your system.

Adopt some of these habits into your daily routine and you'll be feeling better every day! But don't go too crazy...Here are some things NOT to do for a detox:

-Skinny Tea's

-Laxatives

-Extreme Sauna-ing

-Cutting all carbs

So what do you think? Easy enough? Which one do you think will be easiest for you to integrate? Comment below and let me know how you're detoxing!
